Of all the cruises here in Sweden, Birka Cruises is my absolute favorite. There are a few other lines such as Silja, which is also pretty high class and then there’s Viking Line which I would say is generally more a party ship for drunken teens.
Now, when at a more mature age I demand some comfort and quality which Birka offers. The dinner buffé is of very high quality and on the menu this time was Tenderloin! The live music is a very nice addition as well and the whole ship feels very modern and safe as it was built in 2006.
They’ve always had slot machines from PAF, but these have been no name fruit coin machines that weren’t much fun. On this cruise I noticed that they had introduced a small scale “PAF Casino” now with better machines from IGT. For those of you who don’t know PAF, they’re a non profit government owned casino based in Åland. They also have an online casino.
Also available is some table games such as Roulette and Black Jack.
Birka is not a casino cruise in any way, I’m well aware of that but I still don’t understand why they chose IGT machines over Novomatic and WMS. I must admit the IGT slots are not very entertaining as the potential are kind of bad compared to other slots and having max caps on these particular cruise slots made it even worse. Max bet was 1€ and the payouts were horrible. But I guess they don’t want people’s cruise experienced be ruined by gambling away all savings or something (even if it’s still possible of course).
The only slots I could immediately recognize were Gypsy Moon and Treasures of the Pyramids available on Kaboo and Thrills.
To my big surprise (I shouldn’t have been too surprised) I hit 5 scatters on Gypsy Moon, but it turned out to be of no use. Of all the slots I tried there was no special feature in the bonus games to be seen. It all just seemed like regular base game spins to me and I don’t think I ever won anything over 10x. Bonuses were kind of hard to trigger as well so I’m really wondering about the rtp on these slots.
But all in all we had great fun with good music, good food, a lot of drinks and dancing. My dad by the way who never normally play slots managed to cashout 100€ on a 0.50€ bet and bragged about it for the rest of the journey haha. He was so happy the cruise payed itself 😀
